Jets Lose To Pats And Derrick Mason Gets Traded

Derrick Mason lasted 5 weeks in a Jets uniform. Mason was acquired under very short notice in a very short off season, in an effort to replace the production of Jerricho Cotchery but things didn't really pan out like that, not that Cotchery is doing much better himself.

After five weeks Mason only has 13 catches for 115 yards and was traded to the Houston Texans last night for a conditional draft pick. I can't say things are looking more promising for Mason given that he's lost a step and will be splitting time with both Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones. The Texans don't expect him to start and barring a stellar output or complete ineptness by Jacoby Jones the best he could hope for is to start at the slot once Johnson is back from injury.

This was all set in motion after the Baltimore game when rumors circulated that Mason, as well as the other receivers approached Rex Ryan to voice their displeasure with the OC Brian Schottenheimer. Well come Sunday's recent 21-30 loss to the Pats, Mason was benched for young upstart WR Jeremy Kerley which led to the belief he was being disciplined for the alleged "uprising". Late last night ...Mason  gone. Adios.

The Jets are now under .500 at 2-3 and now need to win or kiss the season goodbye. During the loss to the Pats, the defense let a balanced Patriots attack them on the ground and in the air for 400 plus yards of offense. The Jets defense had a few miscues but the truth of it is that they couldn't stay off the field because of a spotty offense not converting on several third and longs.

The run game looked a bit better but it looked forced and the Jets didn't really look to pass until they were behind and the Pats were in control.

Next up for Gang Green are the Gay Sharks Dolphins. They are missing starting QB Chad Henne and haven't won a game all season. I have no doubts in the defense so as long as they figure out how to convert 3rd downs and get points they'll be on the road to recovery.
